Freebies 6-28-08

Here are the freebies from the mailbox this week. I got a Kraft recipe/magazine, but can't find it. But here's the cool coupon that was in it for a free bottle of salad dressing! I got a book from the Billy Graham library, a Fisher-Price Planet Heroes DVD, a sample of Vaseline Men's lotion, and a sample of Healthful Life cat food from Purina with a coupon for $1.50 off. I also got a rebate from Just for Men for $8.00.
What was in your mailbox?

What is Modesty?

I had a weird thing happen to me, a little while back. I was at a store by myself, that is weird enough, but while I was there I got asked out twice. Twice, by the same guy, even after I said I was married!

Now, I do not consider myself attractive. I think I'm cute, but I am also in my late 30's and quite chubby. So when this happened, I immediately thought it was because of the way I was dressed.

That week, it had been over 100 every day, so I was dressed in a spaghetti straps tank top for comfort. I know what I had on was not modest, by any means, but I never thought anyone would look at me and notice anything but a fat lady. Well, apparently, this guy thought I was an easy fat lady! And that has been bothering me ever since.

So, what is modesty? I guess maybe I was thinking as long as I was not intending to be provocative, it was okay the way I was dressed. Maybe that was wrong of me to think. Is modesty in the way you think, or the way you dress? In order to be modest, do I need to wear only dresses? Or, do I just need to wear my clothing less form fitting, and cover up more?

What do you think?

Caregivers Marketplace Cash Back

I posted in my freebies about getting a cash back check back from Caregivers Marketplace. One of my readers, Rachelle asked me to elaborate on it a little. I can't remember where I originally heard about it, but I will post on my experiences with it.

Caregivers Marketplace is a place that pays you back for taking care of your loved ones. They have many rebates available such as Huggies for taking care of your baby, Pull-Ups for your toddler, Depends for elder care, and Nature Made vitamins for anyone. They have many more brands they pay you back to buy.

The rebate for Huggies is $1 for each package of jumbo Huggies you buy. If you CVS like me, you are already paying very little for them anyway, but this is a way to get even more for your money!

All you have to do to sign up, is go to their website and fill out a short form to register. Then, you save up at least 5 original receipts from your eligible purchases, download their form to fill out for your cash back, fill it out, and mail it in. It says your check should arrive in 4-6 weeks. I don't think it even took that long for mine to come.

I have not been doing this too long, but long enough to get 2 checks from them. When they send you your cash back check, they will also send you a form for sending in your receipts next time, so you won't have to print it out again. It's a great way to save more on the things you have to buy anyway!

Freebies 6-21-08

Here are the freebies I received in the mail this week. A Highlights hidden picture sticker game, my 1st issue of TV Guide, a sample of Celine Dion's Sensational, Feline Greenies, Focus on the Family booklet, and a trail size sample of Nature Made Vitamins with a coupon for $1 off.

I also got a check for $8 from Caregiver's Marketplace. They pay you back for taking care of your loved ones. In my case, it was for buying Huggies for my little one. A great way to get extra money back for something I have to buy anyway!

Handmade goodies

I love homemade/handmade things. So, when I saw one of my blog friends had a store, I decided to order something.

These are from Rachelle and her family at Sweet Valley Candles. I didn't order any candles this time, but I ordered soaps. I got Lovely Lavender and Lemon Grass. Aren't they pretty in the picture? They smell wonderful, but I'll admit I haven't opened them yet. They just look too cute!

I also got a bottle of Cucumber Melon lotion, which I have tried. It smells very nice and leaves my skin feeling so soft. What I really love about it is that it doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy, just soft and smooth!

Don't you just love handmade things?

Baby Joshua is home

I posted about a month ago about my cousin's wife having a baby. When he was born he wasn't even 4 pounds, but now he is 5 pounds 8 ounces! Joshua is a great eater. I can't believe how fast he has gained weight!

He came home late last week with his mommy and daddy. A special Father's day present for his dad.

We went to see him last night. He is so sweet and gorgeous! He was surprisingly alert the whole time I held him. His mom and dad are so happy to have him home with them.

Welcome home Joshua! You are a blessing indeed!

I know you are probably thinking I just bought those Playskool diapers a few weeks ago, right? Well, I tried them and they don't work as well as I had hoped. There have been multiple leaking accidents, not to mention, they seem to come undone, and fall off sometimes.

So I am going back to my Huggies! I have always loved the Huggies diapers, and even better they were pretty much free! Yay!!!!

Heat loss

See the pretty hen in the picture above. She died in the middle of the night last night. I went outside and she was laying under the waterer. I picked her up and she sounded like she was gasping for air. So I brought her inside and tried to cool her off and give her some water.

I thought it was working, because before I went to bed she was standing on her own. But, when I got up this morning, she was dead.

It makes me sad. We just got this family of top-hatters less than a week ago. I feel like I am to blame. We have been putting ice in their water to cool them down and giving them cool treats.

If anyone has any ideas to help cool them off, please let me know. I don't want to lose anymore of them. It is SO hot outside! I don't know what else to do?

Beating the heat

Boy has it been hot here lately! I think it's been about 100 degrees everyday the last week. Can't wait for a cool down. Heck, 90 sounds downright cool!

Anyway, I have been looking around the blogs and seeing some of you playing in your nice pools. I have not been coveting any of your pools, by the way ;-). Well, I have been trying not to anyway!

So, since we can't have a big pool, I promised my oldest a pool, so this was what we got him: an 18" deep pool. Now, he's 11, so that's not really that big for him. But he can get wet and cool off!

But, at church, he kept saying how he couldn't wait to get home and go swimming. His teacher just assumed we had at least a 4 foot pool. When she found out it was only 1 1/2 feet, she almost died laughing! I think that reaffirmed just how strange my son can be.

But, at least this little pool made him happy for the time being. The baby liked it too!

Meet our New Family

Yesterday we went and picked up a new family to live with us. We got a family of Polish Chickens. The rooster is a golden laced Polish. He has one white hen, one silver laced hen, and two golden laced hens. They are about a year old, so we will be getting eggs from them now. I'm very excited!

We already have some chickens who are about 13 weeks old. There are 4 roosters and 15 hens that we raised since they were days old. The new rooster has been challenging the other young roosters. Earlier today, I was kinda scared he was going to hurt them. But I went out there a few minutes ago, and everything seemed calm.

We now have 24 chickens! What in the world am I gonna do with that many chickens? I definitely know my hubby is going to have to build some more pens and runs. I just hope everyone can get along until then.

Meet the new babies

Since moving to SC, we got day old chicks back in March. The hens should be laying around the end of summer. They are getting pretty big now. One of the roosters just started crowing. It was so sweet!

We also wanted to get something to help control the bugs. So we got some guinea keets on Saturday. I sure hope they eat fire ants! In the picture above, you can see one of the chickens checking out the new guinea keets.

They are so cute! We have to keep them penned up for awhile, so they can learn where home is. If we let them out too soon, they would probably go away and not come back, or be eaten by predators. So to keep that from happening will keep them penned up for about 8 weeks or so.

I am new to guineas, so if anyone has any advice for me, please let me know.
