Bartering

Since we moved to the country, we have only had a riding lawn mower. Our front and back yards are probably at least 3-4 acres. My son has been mowing them with the riding mower, at least until it quit a few weeks ago.

We also have about 7 more acres that are fields. They have been growing for the last two years. So, some of that brush in the fields was 10 feet high. I should have took a better before picture, but I wasn't thinking. Here's one that's not that great, but you get the idea. It's the area behind the coop.

There is an older gentleman in our church who had some wood he needed cut and he asked my hubby to do it. He told my husband he would pay him, but my husband didn't want money, he just wanted to help the man out.

They worked out a plan, so they could help each other out. They bartered. My husband cuts the trees for him, and the other man came and bush-hogged our land. The chickens and guineas are happy now to have all that land to roam and look for bugs on.

It looks so good now, I am so thankful that he was able to do it for us. In turn, he's grateful that my husband is doing something for him that he can't do. It's a win-win situation. My little one can even walk in the field now.

Have you ever bartered for anything? It is a great way to trade services or goods for things you have or need.

Ain't bartering great!! We do it all the time. We have some friends who weld, and they weld and fabricate stuff for us and we'll either dj their partys or my husband will design (he used to be a landscape designer before he went into semi-retirement) their yards.

Love your place in the country!!

Hugs,
Vic

My husband is actually predicting that if the economy continues to slide, bartering will become more common. I think it's great!

That's wonderful, Nancy!! The field does look so pretty- and it will help in keeping varmits away from your birds, too.
I "barter" with an eldery lady at our church- I bring her eggs on Sundays, and she brings me a cake or pie from time to time!
WHAT A GREAT ARRANGEMENT! LOL
