I tried to make some powdered laundry detergent. I've did it before. But, I don't know what I did wrong this time. The clothes came out with a fuzzy film all over them. I let it mix up before adding the clothes. Maybe I put too much detergent in the load? I'm not sure. Anyway, the clothes ended up looking like this:
I was quite mad at myself. I only made the powdered kind because I was feeling pretty lazy, and didn't want to make liquid. But, I ended up having to make the liquid detergent anyway. I used the same recipe that I posted here. I guess I should stick to what I know. The clothes look much better now. My lesson is to stop being so lazy!

Hmmm...this has happened to me before too, but I don't know why! Very frustrating.
I forgot to say that sometimes powder detergent doesn't dissolve completely in a cold water wash, and I've speculated that this could have been my problem, since I was washing darks when it happened. I read that you can correct this by running just enough hot water to dissolve the powder detergent, and then put your clothes in and switch over to the cold cycle.
Just thought I would share that!
Bless your heart! How discouraging! Well you've cured me of the desire to try the dry stuff. I'll stick with my cooked soap ... in fact, I used my last cup tonight and need to make a batch before bed.
Blessings,
Lea
Oh, I feel for you. It is so frustrating to make something and for it to come out not quite the way we expect. Hang in there and keep trying. blessings,Kathleen
I am just about to try and make my first batch of the cooked soap. I am seeing a lot people in the blogging world having success with that one, so I am going to give it a try. Thanks for sharing about the dry one!
