Giving The Chickens A Treat

I was looking for something in the refrigerator when I found some strawberries I bought a while ago. Some of them weren't looking so good anymore, so I decided to give them to the chickens for a treat.

Chickens love red things, so the strawberries were a big hit! I don't know what it is about the speckled sussex hens, but they love anything you will hand feed them. They are very friendly girls.

A lot of the chickens fought over the strawberries. Mitchell loved feeding them to the chickens. Most ate right out of his hand. They have learned that when we call them they are going to get some kind of special treat.

Do your chickens act like little puppies every-time they see the kids? Ours run to the wire and wait to see if the boys will come to the pen. It is so funny to watch.

Speckled Sussex are very pretty! Our chickens loved the califlower and broccoli. Simone LOVED the grapes.

It's so funny how wasy it is to spoil chickens- I can't walk out of the house without them running toward me. And then they looked soooo disappointed when I don't have anything for them!

Hi Nancy,

That's good to know about the strawberries, next time I think I'll try that. I've been wondering what I can feed my chickens for a treat. I tried a watermelon half today, but they didn't seem that interested. Oh well. Thanks for sharing!
