Potato Questions

First, someone asked what plants were in my Wordless Wednesday post. Those were a couple of my squash plants.

Now, on to my questions. Since I am new to all this gardening, especially potaotoes, I have no clue what I am doing. When am I supposed to put more dirt on the potato plants? Is it a certain height or time or what? How far up do you cover the plants when you cover them? I was thinking you leave the tops of the plants out, but I'm not sure. I really want to have a good potato harvest, so I need help from y'all. Tell me what to do, so I hopefully won't mess up, lol! Thanks!

Nancy-

I can tell you what my grandpa did. I have never done potaotoes yet !!

He would put dirt over them every few weeks, you do not want to see the potaotoes, just the green plant. He did this till about Sept. Oct. when he would pick them.

Hope that helps! Let me know how it turns out, and I hope someone else has some ideas to.

Your plants look so nice. Mine are just started to come up in the green house. The night here are still cold !

Blessings-
Rachelle

Did they grow again, after we left? They look big! Hope you get some answers.

I THINK you just keep putting dirt up on them every so often - I just saw on a blog somewhere....they used straw rather than dirt - potatoes stayed cleaner.....but just leave the green leaves out and you should be good to go.
