Sunday's Song- America The Beautiful

Today I am posting this song in honor of Memorial Day.
I am thankful for everyone who has served our country!

America The Beautiful

1. O beautiful for spacious skies,
for amber waves of grain;
for purple mountain majesties
above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
and crown thy good with brotherhood
from sea to shining sea.

2. O beautiful for heroes proved
in liberating strife,
who more than self their country loved,
and mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine,
till all success be nobleness,
and every gain divine.

3. O beautiful for patriot dream
that sees beyond the years
thine alabaster cities gleam,
undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God mend thine every flaw,
confirm thy soul in self-control,
thy liberty in law.

I always loved this song! But have such a deeper feeling for it because of Pikes Peak. One year, when our children were small, we took a family vacation to Colorado Springs, Colorado. When went up to the top of Pikes Peak. There is a large monument with the words of this song inscribed on it. It tells about the author of the song and how ,at the time she was on top of Pikes Peak,..it inspired her to write it... As I looked out over the country side on top of the mountain, I could easily understand how she felt. I always think back to this time when I hear this song. Blessings,Kathleen
