New Bantams

About a month ago my friend Barb, from Victoria Hill Farm, gave me 2 bantam roosters. Now, I know you're thinking I'm crazy for taking them since I already have 4 grown roosters, and several more almost grown ones. But, they're bantams, and I didn't have any of those kinds of chickens. In case you don't know bantams are small, they don't get big like regular ones.

My son named the white rooster Elvis and my husband named the other rooster Will Smith. So, see, these are really their chickens, not mine. You believe me, right?

Anyway, my husband built the bantys that gorgeous pen at the top of the post. He did an awesome job! He's also building them a run so they can get down and scratch around on the ground. He split the pen in two, so each rooster has his own home.

Since we had 2 roosters, we had to go out and buy some hens for them. We didn't want them to be lonely. We ended up getting them some lovely cochin hens that are a couple months old.

Aren't they just the cutest?

So cute!!! What a great pen, he did an awesome job. Love the names, we need to name ours. Anyone know some cute names for hens?

He really did do an awesome job on the pen! Isn't it nice to have husbands that are handymen and don't mind getting their hands dirty?

The chickens are very sweet! We have some banties and regular ones and really enjoy them all. I have never seen a coop like that! I love it!!

Looks and sounds like your husband needs to get started on a new and bigger pen!

I love my chickens and because I seem to add critters to our place as I see you do, my hubby is always busy adding and improving pens!

Yes, you have cute chickens.

Oh they are cute! I know what you mean about roosters. I had two full grown roosters and only 4 hens. I bought 12 baby hens a couple of months ago, thinking that would keep everyone happy. Now I think one of them is a rooster. I don't want one more rooster....and I am sure the hens feel the same way! {: Blessings,Kathleen

Yikes , you guys are crazy ;-) Do they crow around 3 am?

nannykim, They are far enough away that I can't hear any crowing. I think I only have 1 crazy rooster that crows all hours. Not sure why?

great hen house..we've thought about having a few hens, but it gets so hot here...how do you keep them comfortable?

Dani, the coop we just built is set all in the shade, and has ventilation on 3 sides. It's our bigger coop that is harder to cool, it's built like a shed, and gets hot in there. But, the chickens have 2 runs they can go in. One is shaded and one is sunny. Some people put fans in their coops or hen houses.

Our Banty's are great. I love how small they are... you can fit a lot in a smaller area! Plus, I'm less intimidated catching them as I am the larger chickens!
