Sometimes...

Sometimes I just want to give up!  Y'all know I love my chickens, but I am tired of them dying.  We had been keeping a hen named Angel in the house about 2 weeks or so.  She was really sick and we had to hand feed and water her.  In time, she got better, so we let her go outside about a week ago.  She had been doing so well, getting around fine and eating good.  Then tonight when my son went to put up the chickens, he couldn't find her.  After searching he found her dead.

It's very upsetting to work so hard to take care of her, and then to know it was for nothing.  She was the sweetest little hen.  She followed us around everywhere and would just hop up in your hands.  My son was so upset he just held her for so long, I was afraid he wouldn't let go.  I think it hurt me more to see him upset than anything.  Just when I think I've developed a thick skin, I realize I'm still way too sensitive.

Oh Nancy.. You eased her pain, and gave her quality to what time was left for her.. We have to leave the rest to God, and trust in His judgement as when to call her Home. I'm sure you and your son miss her terribly, and I hope time will heal both your broken hearts in good time. ((Big Hugs)) ~tina

Oh no! I'm so sorry! That made me cry. We just started raising chickens that were given to us and have had all sorts of troubles too. Within the last few days something had been killing them and we lost my favorite as well-a little Bantum-she was a little sweetie too. My husband shot the culprit last night-it was a raccoon that he caught red-handed climbing into their coop. Anyway, I really feel for you and I can't imagine how hard it would be if one of my children had grown attached to ours. I'll keep you and your son in my prayers :-)

Awww, I'm sorry to hear this Nancy. ((Hugs)) for you and your son. One of our drop off kitties, Loki, was with us for only five years and he passed. That tugged at our hearts so that we had him cremated and keep his ashes on a shelf. These things happen, sad but true. Hugs~Carol

Nancy, I don't think you're too sensitive. I think it's so special that you have such a soft heart for God's creatures big and small.

...and it is usually the one you love the most that dies, it is just not fair!I am sorry for loss of your special chicken, and I do know how much more it hurts to see your own child hurt.

Nancy, that was heart-breaking. I know you guys put allot of time and love into those chickens. We had one that was walking funny one evening, when we locked them in the pen. Wyatt was worried about her all night. The next morning, she was laying dead at the door. We will never know what in the world happened to her. But, I know that your son has a tender heart, and that is a treasure above treasures. Hugs!!!!

Gosh Nancy, I am soooo sorry you all lost a chicken. I know that must be really hard. I love our chickens dearly. They are so fun to watch and have their own little personalities. Maybe in spring you can buy more to watch grow. I am sorry your son had to find her too. Poor guy

Oh Nancy. I'm so sorry to hear that. I empathize with your loss. And....your not too sensitive. Your response only shows me what a wonderful, loving gal you are. Besides, I used to cry when one of our goldfish would die. It sounds like your little hen had awesome personality, and was a special part of your family. I will keep you all in my prayers. Give your son hugs and kisses for me.

I'm so sorry, Nancy... you've really had a run of bad luck with your chickens and I know it hurts, especially when the kids are so attached to them. Hugs to you- and hope you luck improves!
