Chick

I can't remember if I mentioned my broody hens before.  This year we had 2 hens go broody at the same time.  Both had a lot of eggs under them.  Probably more than they should have.  I always say I'm going to mark the eggs, so the other hens can't keep laying on top of them, but I didn't do it.

The game hen we have decided to give up about a week or so before her eggs should have hatched, so we lost all those eggs.  Then, the Buff Cochin hen was good and stayed on her eggs, but only one of them hatched.  So I've got one chick!  How sad, only one little chick.  It's a few weeks old now, but I finally got around to taking pictures of it.  With my luck, it's probably a rooster!

Later this week I'll show you pictures of more new additions.  You'll just have to come back to find out what they are!

How fun to have a little chick! We never let our hens set-I didn't want to give up any eggs since we only have 6 hens-LOL! I only think 1 tried this year though.

I hope that little chick is a hen for you! We have 2 roosters (by accident)...luckily they are free range otherwise I don't know they'd get along.

All these are so beautiful. But the way the chick is strutting ...HE may be a rooster!
