I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day!  Please remember our men and women who have died in service to our country!  If you know someone who has lost a loved one while in the service, thank them.

I would like to thank everyone who has ever been in the service and their families for their many sacrifices!

New Babies

Did you guess about our new arrivals?  Our chihuahua, Sugar, got pregnant unexpectedly!  She's apparently a very fertile dog!  She just had Bear 6 months ago.

Well, last week she had 2 puppies.  A boy and a girl.  The boy is all black with white paws and the girl is black with white on it's head and neck and white paws.

Luckily, we already have homes for them.  Almost everyone I know loves chihuahuas!

Look how little he is compared to his 6 month old brother, Bear!  Aren't they cute?

Chick

I can't remember if I mentioned my broody hens before.  This year we had 2 hens go broody at the same time.  Both had a lot of eggs under them.  Probably more than they should have.  I always say I'm going to mark the eggs, so the other hens can't keep laying on top of them, but I didn't do it.

The game hen we have decided to give up about a week or so before her eggs should have hatched, so we lost all those eggs.  Then, the Buff Cochin hen was good and stayed on her eggs, but only one of them hatched.  So I've got one chick!  How sad, only one little chick.  It's a few weeks old now, but I finally got around to taking pictures of it.  With my luck, it's probably a rooster!

Later this week I'll show you pictures of more new additions.  You'll just have to come back to find out what they are!

Sunday's Song - Keep On The Sunny Side Of Life

Thank you everyone for your prayers and wishes for Hunter to be better!  Yesterday he didn't have a fever at all, so I think it's over with, whatever it was, lol.

I love this song today!  It's a great reminder to always be hopeful.  I've included a video of the song for anyone interested in hearing it.

Keep On The Sunny Side Of Life

There's a dark and a troubled side of life
There's a bright and a sunny side, too
Tho' we meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view

[chorus]
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life

Tho' the storm in its fury broke today,
Crushing hopes that we cherished so dear;
Storm and cloud will in time pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear.

[chorus]
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life

Let us greet with a song of hope each day
Tho' the moments be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our Saviour alway
Who keepeth everyone in His care

[chorus]
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life

Not Feeling Well

For the last couple days Hunter hasn't been feeling well.  He has had a temperature.  Last night it had went down some.  I don't know what's wrong since he has no other symptoms.

I hate it when he's sick.  But, I really treasure him wanting to be held and loving on me.  These days, that doesn't happen very much.  He's usually too busy to be held for more than a minute at a time.

So, for now, I am going to go back and hold my sweet "baby" some more!

Grill Daddy Giveaway

One of the things I most love about warm weather is my husband cooking supper on the grill!  It gives me a break from cooking and he really enjoys it.  What he doesn't enjoy is cleaning the grill.  That is why I was so excited to be able to review the Grill Daddy.

Look how dirty how dirty our grill was before:

The Grill Daddy and Grill Daddy Pro are steam powered grill cleaning tools that release water as you brush away baked on food and grease.  It has specially designed stainless steel bristles to clean in between grill grates and surfaces.  It's safe for porcelain, steel, and iron grills.

Since my husband got a new grill not too long ago he was happy to try out the Grill Daddy Pro for me.  To clean, he heated up the grill, filled the Grill Daddy Pro with water, turned on the valve, and scrubbed.

He loves the handle because it gives him leverage to get the grime off.  My husband has used the Grill Daddy Pro for about a month now and he still loves it.  He said he would definitely recommend the Grill Daddy Pro.

The Grill Daddy is $19.95 plus s&h.  The one we reviewed, The Grill Daddy Pro, is $24.95 plus s&h.  The Grill Daddy Pro has a longer handle for larger grills.

Our Garden 2010 - Update 1

Our garden seems to be doing really well so far.

The okra, watermelon, and cantaloupe are small, but looking good.  So, are the green beans.

One of the cucumbers has blooms on it.  The zucchini are big, but no blooms yet.

The first squash that I planted are huge and have blooms and little squash.

It won't be long before we have some fried squash for supper!

I was worried the lettuce wouldn't produce since it's been so hot, but tonight, I picked some and we were able to have a salad from the garden.  My hubby said it was light and so much better than store bought lettuce.

How is your garden?

Sunday's Song - Amazing Grace

Looking back, I can't believe I haven't posted this wonderful old hymn before!  We sang it last Sunday at church and I also just heard my hubby humming it.  It brought a smile to my face, as I hope it does yours!  Happy Sunday!

Amazing Grace

1. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me!
    I once was lost, but now am found;
was blind, but now I see.

2. 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
    and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
    the hour I first believed.

3. Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
    I have already come;
'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

4. The Lord has promised good to me,
    his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be,
    as long as life endures.

5. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
    and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.

6. When we've been there ten thousand years,
    bright shining as the sun,
we've no less days to sing God's praise
    than when we first begun.

Building A Shop - Part 2

My husband reminded me that I haven't shown y'all more pictures of his shop we've been building! I can't believe it's been 2 months since I lasted showed the progress, but boy have we been busy!

The next thing he had to do was to put up the supports for the roof. Our ladder wasn't tall enough, so we had to improvise.

This time he only had me and Mitchell to help him. You can see my helping spot up under the roof, lol! No, really, I did help when he asked for it. I handed him the tin, so he wouldn't have to get off the roof.  The chair was my resting place in between.

It took us awhile to get it done, but we finally got all the tin on the roof and most of the caps on the center.

We still have enough tin to cover the sides, but we don't have enough 2x4's to do that yet. We'll have to wait till we have enough money to buy some more. But, I think it looks great and my husband is glad the hard part is over!

I will show more pictures after we can do the sides, but it will probably be a few more months.

Declutter Challenge- April Update

Wow, another month gone, and again I forgot to post about the Declutter Challenge.  April was a great month for getting rid of things, so even though it's late, I wanted to share.  We cleaned out our game room, went through clothes and homeschool supplies and moved things around.

I was able to go through my youngest son's clothes again and gave away 38 pieces of clothing!  While going through our homeschool bookcase, I found 20 things we didn't really like, so I donated them.  I also found 36 magazines to recycle and 9 manuals of things we don't own any longer.

That brings April's total to 103 items!  My total for the year so far is now 283 items gone!  Feels good to get rid of stuff!

Uncover Exciting History

I have always been a history buff.  I was really excited to find out that my oldest son is too!  So, we were more than happy to review Uncover Exciting History by Amy Puetz.  But, don't worry, it's not boring for those who don't like history, either.  Amy has written each history story in short, easy to understand parts with a Christian perspective.

Then for those who want a more in depth look, she recommends books on the subjects, questions to answer, and activities to do.  That's great for children who want to know more about each story.

The stories Amy presents aren't just dates and names, she goes deeper, and gives you a feel of what life was like for those living in that time in history.  We just read The Oregon Trail Story and she gave an example of what they needed to even start on the trail.  She goes on to give an account of what a day on the trail was like.  It really helped my son to understand how hard life was for them.

Uncover Exciting History can be purchased as an e-book for $14.95 or as a paperback for $16.50.  It's 184 pages long and includes such stories as The Lost Colony of Roanoke, The Making of a Republic, The Pony Express, and The Great War.  You can read a sample chapter here.

I was given an e-book from Amy Puetz in association with Mama Bzz in exchange for a review.
