Sunday's Song- Had It Not Been

Our preacher's wife sang this today at church and I really enjoyed it, so I decided to share the words to it with y'all.  Hope you have a blessed Sunday!

Had It Not Been

Just suppose God searched through Heaven
He couldn't find one willing to be
The supreme sacrifice that was needed
That would buy eternal life for you and me

Had it not been for a place called Mt. Calvary
Had it not been for the old rugged cross
Had it not been for a man called Jesus

Then forever my soul would be lost

Oh but I'm so glad He was willing
To drink His bitter cup
Although He prayed, Father let it pass from me
And I'm so glad He never called Heaven's angels
From my hands pull these nails that torment me

Then forever my soul would be lost

Our Garden 2011

Our whole family worked together to plant our garden a few weeks ago.  We found a volunteer lettuce from last year.  A week later it mysteriously disappeared.

My husband tilled the dirt for us and my oldest son used a loop to help and make the mounds for the rows.

Then we put down weed cover to keep the weeds at bay. I really hate weeding the garden!

I was so glad when we finished and couldn't wait until we could harvest fresh veggies!

Then when I went outside yesterday, I discovered Hunter had pulled up every single plant that was growing!

I am so depressed! I have to start all over. I was really mad at Hunter at first, but then I realized he was probably just trying to help. After all I told him we were going to eat the things growing there. Maybe he was picking the "food" for me?

I guess I'm going to give it another shot and plant a few more things. Wish me luck!

1-2-3! Textured Products Review

Recently I received 1-2-3! Textured products to review with my 3 year old.  They are hands on textured craft kits for preschoolers that include sticker kits, craft kits, and activity packs.  All you have to add is the glue!

Some of the kits include zoo animals, summer fun, reptiles, and holiday kits.

Hunter loves tractors, so I chose Tuggy the Tractor for Hunter to decorate.  It came with blue fuzz, pink and white stringy confetti, and green and blue plastic-like confetti.  As we made it, I talked about how each thing he put on felt different.  He had fun making his tractor look cool by using his imagination.  We used a glue stick, but I would recommend using something stronger because some of the decorations fell off.

I like how everything to make these crafts is included except glue.  It's an easy thing to just grab when you want something fun to do with your child.

1-2-3! Textured Products help children with their motor skills, so that makes them a great addition to any preschool program.

1-2-3! Textured Products can be purchased as individual kits, activity packs that include 3 different kits, or you can also buy a subscription by the month.  You can go here and receive a free sample kit (pay $1.50 for shipping).

I received a craft kit from 1-2-3! Textured Products in association with Mama Bzz in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet Gifts

As I sit here right now, my boys have drove me completely insane today!  They have been loud, wild, and generally uncontrollable all day.  But, they're not always like that.  Sometimes they can be sweet.  Just look at the little gifts they made for me at church for Mother's Day.

Hunter chose things he loves to decorate my gift bag.  Things like Arthur, cars, and other cartoon pictures.

Mitchell, who is much older, chose American Flags, Harley Davidsons, and Snakes to decorate his gift bag.  The poem attached to the bags are very sweet:

Mommy's Day Bag Ingredients:

A Rubber Band - To keep our hearts tied together

A Candy Kiss - To say thank you for all your love

A Penny - To say thank you for sharing my thoughts and letting me know they are important to you

A Warm Fuzzy (small piece of fabric) - To make you feel good when you are sad, like you always do for me

An Adhesive Bandage - To say thank you for all the times you make my hurts feel better

A Facial Tissue - To say thank you for all the times you dry my tears

A Piece of Lifesavers Candy - A circle to show my love for you will never end

The contents in each bag were the same.

Who knew my wild boys could be SO sweet!  Mitchell even came and got me the other day when he was playing with his brother and said "Mom, you should come out and take pictures for your blog."  The mark of a true bloggers child, lol!  So here are a few pictures I took that day.

Sunday's Song- Somebody's Hero

If you're lucky enough to still have your Mother with you today, be sure to tell her you love her and take the time to appreciate her!  I didn't really, and it's too late for me now.

The song I chose for today isn't a hymn, but a country song about a mother and daughter.  I hope everyone has a Happy and Blessed Mother's Day!

Somebody's Hero

She's never pulled anyone from a burning building
She's never rocked Central Park to a half a million fans, screaming out her name
She's never hit a shot to win the game
She's never left her footprints on the moon
She's never made a solo hot air balloon ride, around the world,
No, she's just your everyday average girl (but)

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her baby with a skinned up knee
A little kiss is all she needs
The keeper of the cheerios
The voice that brings Snow White to life
Bedtime stories every night
And that smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

She didn't get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she's been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life's ambition
But now her baby's movin' on, and she'll soon be missin' her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin' down her face

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother's eyes
And that smile lets her know oh oh oh
She's somebody's hero

Thirty years have flown right past
Her daughters' starin' at all the photographs
Of her mother, and she wishes she could be like that
Oh, but she already is

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin' chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mother with a spoon
And that smile lets her know oh oh
Her mother's smile lets her know oh oh
She's somebody's hero

No Work Spanish Review

Have you ever wanted to learn Spanish, but didn't have the time to take classes?  If so, No Work Spanish may be the answer for you!  No Work Spanish is a new approach to learning another language.  You learn just like you did your first language, by listening to others speak it.

On these CDs a sentence is first read in English, then in Spanish.  This repeats until the chapter is finished, then the story is read entirely to you in Spanish.  The 2 stories I received to try are:

Yaks March on Washington: This is a true story about the experiences of  an Idaho rancher who travels across the country with his trusty dog, and six yaks in tow.

and
Poster Girl: a two-CD story about trying to outdo a goody two-shoes student and problems that happen when you start your school project the night before it is due.

I remember some Spanish from high school, but only key words and phrases.  Hey, it's been a long while, lol!  I wasn't sure just listening to these CDs would help, but it really does.  After listening to only a few sentences I found myself understanding words and sometimes a sentence.  It's taking my fourteen year old son a little longer to pick out words, but I think with time he will get it.  I am thinking of going here and printing out the text for these No Work Spanish stories, so he can follow along.

If you would like to try No Work Spanish, you can go here and they will email you the first three chapters of one of their books.  Then you can see for yourself how easy it is.  You can purchase both of the Spanish audio CDs that I received for $21.95.  They are also available as an audio download and prices will vary with which one you would like to buy.

I received No Work Spanish through Mama Bzz in exchange for an honest review.

Fourteen

Last week we celebrated my oldest son's 14th birthday.  I can't believe he's that old!  How did that happen?

Mitchell wanted a Halo birthday cake, so I attempted to make one for him.  This is how it came out.  Not too great, but he was happy with it, and that's whats important.

He got some great presents such as a game for his DSi, Legos, Mega Bloks, a football, and money!  Who doesn't like money for their birthday?

He invited several of his friends and lots of cousins to the party.

They played video games, jumped on the trampoline, walked around in the woods and had a great time!

Book Review: Ten Great Adventurers

I am blessed to have a son who loves learning about history.  So I was glad to review Ten Great Adventurers by Kate Dickinson Sweetser, edited by Amy Puetz .  It's tells the story of ten men who lived exciting lives and were real heroes in history.

The adventure starts with Sir Francis Drake on the seas, then on to Africa with David Livingstone.  The other adventurers included are John Smith, Christopher Columbus, Daniel Boone, Sir John Franklin, HernĂ¡n Cortez, John Paul Jones, Hernando De Soto, and Guiseppe Garibaldi.

These stories bring history to life for my fourteen year old.  He loves the maps that are included that can be followed to trace the adventurer's journeys.  This book is also illustrated to help bring the stories to life even more.

Amy Puetz has also edited a book about women called Ten Girls From History.  The stories included are about Louisa May Alcott, Clara Barton, Molly Pitcher, Cofachiqui, Madeleine De Vercheres, Dorothy Quincy, Ida Lewis, Elizabeth Van Lew, Virginia Reed, and Clara Morris.

Amy has a special running this week-  These books retail for $25 each but for five days only (May 2 to May 6) they are available at the sale price of $15 each! That's $10 OFF each book!  There are only a limited number of books available. When they're gone they're gone. If you would like to buy the ebooks versions of these books they are 40% off too! Use the code May2011 to receive the discount!  You can go purchase or learn more here.

I received an ebook of Ten Great Adventurers from Amy Puetz in exchange for a review.
