Giveaway- We Choose Virtues Flash Cards

I learned so much from the 2:1 Conference I attended in April. One of those was about this great company called We Choose Virtues.   The program was created by Heather McMillan when she saw a crisis in public school children who couldn't or didn't know how to follow simple tasks.  She developed a list of virtues and catch phrases to go with them.  Also each one comes with a Bible verse that shows where each character trait is in the Bible.

I was so happy to get the Faith Based Family Kit to review.  I have been having the hardest time getting my youngest to follow directions and not whine.  I know it's all my fault for not training him better, however this is a huge help with his our issues!  So far he has really enjoyed learning a few virtues.  He also likes the coloring pages and loves to tell me what they are doing while he colors.  I like that the program is fun for my kindergartner and he gets to learn much needed character traits.

Another good thing is it doesn't just state what the virtue is, it also tells what the virtue isn't.  For example for being attentive, it lists things not to do like getting distracted or interrupting others.  I think that helps kids to understand a little better by having that example.

This is going to become part of our homeschool for this year.  Even my high school student can stand to learn a few things from We Choose Virtues.

Stormy Weather

Last week we had some really bad weather near our home. We had a lot of thunder, lightning, hail, and some extreme winds!  The picture above is what is left of one of our neighbor's buildings.  It tore almost half of that building down.

He also lost half of another barn he had.

The crazy thing is, the tin and wood from the buildings made it across the street and 3 houses down from where he lives!  If it hadn't been for trees the debris would have hit Barb's home.  If you look closely in the picture above you can see the debris strewn all the way down the field and across the road to the trees on the right.

We were very lucky compared to our neighbor, the only thing the wind messed up that day at our house was our trampoline.  It was blown into the woods, which messed up the legs on it and put some holes in the safety pads that I replaced last year.  However, after Ronnie put it back together it looks like it will be okay.

A few days later another storm tore off part of our siding.  Luckily my hubby was able to put it back on the same day.  Have y'all had any storms lately?

Veil of Pearls- Book Review

Veil of Pearls by MaryLu Tyndall is set in the 1800s and begins with our heroine, Adalia, running for her life and her freedom in the Caribbean.  You see Adalia is a slave who wants to start her life fresh in America.  She purchases passage on a ship and ends up in Charleston, SC where she hopes her light skin will allow her to live life as a free woman.

Morgan is a wealthy plantation owner's son who finds Adalia fascinating and tries desperately to convince her to let him court her. Adalia, however, only wants to help others and finds Morgan's advances bothersome.  Will she let Morgan into her heart?  Will everyone find out who Adalia really is and what she's running from?  Well, you're going to have to read the book to find out!

MaryLu really knows how to draw you into a story.  From the very beginning the characters were brought to life through her writing.  I found myself caring about Morgan and Adalia and couldn't wait to see what would happen to them next.

If you like historical or Christian romances, MaryLu Tyndall's books are the best, and Veil of Pearls is no exception.

This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
