Injured Guinea

The night before last we were outside letting the chickens roam around when I noticed a guinea was getting stomped on. We took her out and let her walk around a little. She could hardly walk. It was like one of her feet was all bunched up and wouldn't open right. So we brought her in the house and put her in a box to let her heal.

Guineas are so much more skittish than chickens! She doesn't trust us at all, even though we are trying to help her. Yesterday she stayed in the box all day. She did at least eat and drink.

This morning I got up and she is roosting on the side of the box and screaming for her guinea friends. She is quite loud! I know she misses them. They also miss her too, because sometimes when I'm outside, they are hollering very loud too! It's like they are trying to guide her home.

Does anyone know how long I should keep her isolated? I hate keeping her away from them, but they were trampling on her. I thought they might kill her, if I didn't do something.

I would keep her separated from the chickens till her foot was healed BUT I would bring in a guinea friend to stay with her.

I have no idea, but I thought the guinea was cute! We had chickens when I was a kid and I kinda miss them. Oh, wait, my aunt raises guineas--I'll email her!

Oh poor baby. I don't have any advice, this is the first time I have heard about guinea's :-)

Okay, guinea-raising aunt agrees. Keep the guinea separated, but a friend is good! :)
