House in the Woods

Right before Easter, when my cousin died, I got a chance to talk to some relatives I hadn't spoken to in forever. They gave me some family history I didn't know. They told me that they grew up on the land right beside ours in a house. Only it wasn't the house I thought, it was further back, way off the road.

So, me and my husband got on the four-wheeler one day in search of it. It's not too far from our house. Further than I'd want to walk, but a short ride away. The house is in these trees. I would have never know, it's so well-hidden.

It was in fairly good condition to be about 100 years old and abandoned. I really thought the roof would have fallen in on it, but it still stood. I love old houses like this one. it brings back memories of my childhood. I had an aunt whose house was similar to this one. I had such fun there!

What a fun find and good that you had the 4 wheeler. I often ride by old abandoned homes, and sometimes jonquils still bloom out in the yard. Did you see any?

How very cool that you guys live very close to where your relatives grew up! Is it on your property too?

I love old houses, mostly b/c of the history that goes with them. You never know how many generations of families lived and struggled to survive through the years!!

They don't build things like they used to! The last pic would be a good one for a puzzle.

I love old abandoned homes like this - and always wish I could redo them to look like they did. What a great find!

That's really cool. I love family history like, and how great that the house is still there and so close by.
