A Blessing Of Food

Kid Rock (My favorite rooster)
Y'all know I love my chickens more than anything!  They are so sweet and beautiful and fun to watch!

Edward (A mini version of Kid Rock)
But since around July I haven't gotten more than an egg a week, if I'm lucky.  I have over 20 hens so there is something wrong with this picture.

Carrie
Turns out, since they have been free-ranging, they apparently forgot all about their nesting boxes.  We found piles of eggs under my husband's old car, under some wood, and under his shed in a rabbit hutch.  We are trying shutting them up for half a day to see if we'll get the eggs.

I let them free-range because I love seeing them all around the yard.  Plus, it saves money!  Those chickens can eat a 50 pound bag of feed in 3 days!  I can't afford that all the time.

Simone
Which is why I was super excited when my cousin showed up with a truck load of day old bread.  He gets a good deal on it and buys a lot.  Luckily, he is willing to share the bread with me!

I got so much bread that I was able to fill my nearly empty deep freezer to the top.

I also filled my refrigerator and the small freezer on the fridge!  So, the chickens are set for awhile!

My chickens and I are thankful for this blessing!  Thanks Buck!

Kid Rock is a pretty rooster and Carrie looks bossy. Love the feathers on Simone.

Some day, I'm gonna have to take a day off work and visit you and the farm.

I love when stuff like that happens! It makes me feel good to use up "old stuff" that would otherwise get thrown away.

I am with Cheryl I want to come visit too. I know we all live pretty close.
Your chickens are beautiful and I am not much of a chicken girl, but I would love to visit and see your farm. I will even bring us lunch.
Blessings,
Bren

I hope you can figure something to do with those crazy birds. I'd hate for you to have to get rid of them or eat them. Honestly I thought you were going to show us a table serving at the end. So glad you didn't. Happy you got all that bread.

You have some of the most beautiful chickens I have ever seen! I wish we could let ours freerange but we have peacocks in the neighborhood and they love our backyard. I read that peacocks are aggressive and that was confirmed when a neighbor said her dog came up missing fur and she caught the peacocks pecking at the dog. I guess it is a good thing I can't freerange, that way we get to eat the yummy eggs, LOL. Have a great Tuesday and congrats on all the bread!

Thats wonderful, Nancy- I'm sure your chickies will love the bread! I have that happen sometimes too, then I have to put mine up until they figure out the nest boxes are there for a reason... *LOL*
