Small Town USA

Many of you know we moved from the city 2 years ago when my youngest was born. My heart always belonged to the country. When I was little we visited here so often it always felt more like home to me. So, I was thrilled to be able to move here!

There are some trade-offs to living in the country, though. We don't have a pediatrician's office in town, so we have to go to the next town over to take my son. Which, isn't too bad, really. But, while we were there the other day, they said my youngest needed to have blood drawn next door. Which, I thought meant the actual next door down the hall. It wasn't even the building next door. Apparently next door to them is down the road and even worse it's at the hospital! In the city, they did this at the doctor's office, you didn't have to go anywhere.

So, we go down to the hospital and have to wait in the emergency room because all the seats at the lab are full. The emergency waiting room was so small! They only had like maybe 8 seats in the whole room! And boy was it hard to keep Hunter from grabbing everything there.

After waiting forever, or maybe 45 minutes, our name was called. Yay! We had to register and then go back to the lab and wait a little more. Then it was Hunter's time to have blood drawn. I had to hold his arms and legs while 2 ladies tried to draw his blood. Only problem is, poor thing has veins like me, they run away from needles. They had to stick him twice and even then they had to wiggle the needle around after they got it in to get the blood!

The only good thing was one of the ladies trying to get his blood was a cousin of mine. I know she hated having to hurt my baby. As soon as they finished he stopped crying and was fine. So, it wasn't fun having to go to the hospital to do that, but it was nice that someone I trusted was the one who did it. Small towns are good in that way, you know someone everywhere you go.

I love small towns, too! And I love living in the country. (Although I also lived in the country as a child before moving to suburban Atlanta.) Hope you have a great weekend!

I LOVE small-town medicine, too!! I actually wrote a post about it last year.

Mostly the only thing I miss about living in the city is Wal*Mart!!! Our nearest one is almost 2 hrs away..... aaaaaaahh!

I love small towns and living in the country. Poor hunter for having to have blood drawn - we've had nasty experiences when both kids were little and nurses couldn't find their veins. Glad it went well.

I love small towns too and appreciate when I see a familiar face during a difficult situation - like with Hunter having bloog drawn. The trees etc. around your home are so pretty and I love Hunter on the long stretch of road. Have a good weekend.

I live in a small town too. I was just thinking about it yesterday when I was in Wal-mart and knew almost everyone in the whole store!

Sometimes it seems like everyone knows everything that's going on - good or bad - but when you need support, you have the whole town!

Lovely photo's ... it all looks so green, and tranquil, too ! I really feel for you re. having to have your son's blood drawn. I recently had the exact same thing with my 4 1/2 yr old daughter (also has to hold her down !) ...it is just heartbreaking as a mother to watch your child have to go through that. It gave me an extra excuse to spoil her afterwards with a few treats, though ;)

I've always been drawn to the country and farm towns. Growing up I was a military child so we never really left the base, now I live right outside the city but not outside it enough. I still have to deal with people and I've come to realize I just like them from afar. Wow though on the hospital. Hope he's okay.

One day your cousin will tell Hunter about this at a family reunion, hopefully NOT at the hospital / clinic again. But isn't it nice to know you do have family there ?

Oh, I grew up in a small town, so I know exactly what you're talking about. :)

I'm now in a "city" ... but it's nothing like NYC or Boston...it's got a small town feeling to it even though it's a larger one.

Glad Hunter is doing okay though!
